Planting Mulberry Trees in Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ)

To support Cambodia Sericulture Revival Project initiated by Dr. Mey Kalyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Royal University of Phnom Peny(RUPP) in collaboration with Aoral Silk Community located in Kompong Speu province, Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. planted 440 mulberry trees in PPSEZ on August 19, 2019.

The support of providing mulberry leaves to feed silkworms in Aoral Silk Community will be a significant contribution for silk production in response to the demand in Cambodia as said by Mr. Ea Hoknym, Chairman of Aoral Silk Community. About 20 families living around the community are given jobs in silk production line, and others are convinced to plant mulberry trees around their areas and then supply the leaves to the community. In doing so, local people can make some income to support families without moving to work away from home.

We hope with the effort of Dr. Kalyan team, the sericulture will be revived to bring various benefits to the society. We will continuously support this project.
