On 20th August 2015, in the heart of Phnom Penh SEZ, the groundbreaking ceremony of Coca Cola was celebrated. The ceremony was presided over by H.E. Keat Chhon, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom.
"Let me congratulate Coca Cola for your decision to choose Phnom Penh SEZ as your new home. Phnom Penh SEZ is another success story when it comes to Cambodia’s ability to cater to the needs of major investors. I take this opportunity to highlight that the Royal Government of Cambodia has pledged to support in a comprehensive way the development of our SEZ’s to meet international standards," he said.
Mr. Rial Finan, Executive Vice President of Coca-Cola also took to the podium to share his positive impressions about the Kingdom’s opportunities: “Cambodia provides a significant growth opportunity for our business in the region. Our decision to invest $100 million into this plant and the country was guided by the positive demographics in the country but, more importantly, the abundance of strong local talent and the positive business climate made it an easy decision to build our plant here”.
The first phase of the development will create four production lines, a showroom, an office building, product warehouse and a water treatment facility. The new plant is scheduled to be operational by July 2016.
The new facility is being developed on more than 12 hectares of land and will provide direct employment for 300 people; more land is already reserved for future expansion with an additional three more production lines proposed for future years, and 50 supervisory, 250 non-supervisory jobs as well as indirect employment for up to 1,800 people.
