Phnom Penh, January 19th 2015
After 8 years of operations and with 77 international and domestic investors today, the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ) has become the leading economic zone in the Kingdom and the face of Cambodia’s economic transformation.
On Friday, January 16th, the Phnom Penh SEZ welcomed 50 key economic players based in Cambodia. From Embassy economic and trade counsellors to corporate executives to representatives of international organisations, the mix of attendees attests to the key role that PPSEZ has maintained since its inception. Madam Lim Chhiv Ho, Phnom Penh SEZ’s founder, Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu, CEO and Mr. Charles Esterhoy, COO, introduced PPSEZ and then led a special tour of two factories:
- Minebea, a Japanese multinational corporation and a leading producer of precision components and electronics devices and employing over 6000 workers inside PPSEZ.
- Stratco, an Australian based manufacturer of quality building and home improvement products
“From 2015, our mission is to more actively contribute to and promote Cambodia’s development as a destination for larger and global FDI. The guests we welcomed last Friday will help us in this way”,stated Mr. Esterhoy.
The exclusive site tour and the visit of these two modern factories highlighted Phnom Penh SEZ as the engine of Cambodia’s economic growth. With a wide range of sophisticated industries represented in the zone, Phnom Penh SEZ has successfully attracted a wide range of specialized FDI to Cambodia and is in 2015 preparing for its listing on the Cambodian Stock Exchange.
As the key player in leading the transformation of the Cambodian business environment towards modern manufacturing, Phnom Penh SEZ wants to go further, creating the next future for the Kingdom. Phnom Penh SEZ’s top management is committed to actively take up the challenges the country is currently facing: high cost of electricity, compliance with international standards, sustainability and increased environmental awareness.
“Since 2006 we have been committed to the future; in 2014 we arrived at that future; and from 2015 we will create a brighter future”, detailed Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu, CEO.
