Phnom Penh, 10th April 2017 – On Saturday the 8th of April, Phnom Penh SEZ, the leading special economic zone in the Kingdom, hosted its renowned Khmer New Year workers’ Talent Contest and concert. More than 20,000 workers attended the event and celebrated with popular performers and entertainers.
This year, the event was held under the name Sangkranta Posenchey PPSEZ Idol 2017. The celebration was conducted under the presidency of H.E. Morm Vannak, Secretary of State of Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training; H.E Chea Vuthy, Deputy Secretary General of Cambodian Investment Board and Cambodian Special Economic Zone Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC),) H.E Sivann Botum, Secretary of State of Ministry of Women Affairs and Lok Chumteav Oknha Lim Chhiv Ho, Chairwoman of Phnom Penh SEZ Plc.
“Our employees are all highly supportive and committed, and have achieved great results for their various employers in our zone. We wanted to celebrate this success together. Tonight they are the best examples that hard work and commitment yields fruit – both for their personal lives and for our industrial estate as a whole,” says Lok Chumteav Oknha Lim Chhiv Ho, Chairwoman of Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. “We have some international groups operating in the zone such as Coca-Cola, Ajinomoto, Yamaha, Denso, Minebea, and Sumi Wiring Systems who are bringing manufacturing in Cambodia to the next level by offering expertise and training to those who are keen to achieve more. We want them to feel that they are part of a growing and modern work environment that is fully committed to the future.”
The event was a major success, offering the attendees a great show with local stars Meas Soksophea, Kem, Yem Samoun’s Ban and the Perki Comedy Team. The election of the "Stars of PPSEZ" involving all factories was the most awaited moment of the night. Hundreds of participants competed hard to win the contest. In a tough pre-selection process, the participants recited, danced, sang and modeled in order to make it through to the final stage where the best three teams were awarded. Many of the companies at Phnom Penh SEZ have offered their generous support and given their employees the opportunity, and time, to prepare for the competition as well as to support the event.

Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu, our CEO, participated in TV program, namely “Cambodia Global Dialogue”. This program, hosted by H.E. Dr. Sok Siphana – Advisor to the Royal Government of Cambodia, was on air on date March 30, 2017. The agenda of this episode is to highlight how quality energy, meaning electricity, is important to industrial development of Cambodia. Our CEO highlighted on company initiatives to improve quality and cost competitiveness of electricity will help to attract high tech industries like Electronics and Auto Parts to invest in Cambodia, apart from improving labor skills. In addition, he highlighted on our recent partnership with B.Grimm Power Plc., a Thai leading electricity producer to achieve the aforesaid initiatives.
March 24th, 2017: Phnom Penh SEZ PLC conducted the 1st quarterly HR meeting with 47 participants from various tenants inside the zone. This meeting agenda included NSSF’s health care service, Update on International Women’s Day event at Koh Pich on Mar 08, 2017, Infrastructure maintenance in Phnom Penh SEZ, and Sahas security service. The meeting was conducted effectively. All participants enjoyed asking questions and sharing their thoughts on the solutions.
More than two thousand female workers from Phnom Penh SEZ celebrated Women’s day at Diamond island convention and exhibition center
Phnom Penh, 8th March 2017 - On Wednesday the 8th of March, Phnom Penh SEZ, the leading special economic zone in Cambodia, invited 2000 female workers to attend an official ceremony organized to celebrate the International Women's Day which commemorates the movement for women's rights worldwide.
The event was presided over by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia as well as Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen and attended by Cambodian Minister of Women’s Affairs, H.E Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi and Lok Chumteav Oknha Lim Chhiv Ho, Chairwoman of Phnom Penh SEZ Plc.
This year the ceremony, held under the theme “women for peace and prosperity” and organized by the Ministry for Women’s Affairs, gathered a crowd of 3000 Cambodian women, including 2000 workers from the industrial estate.
"We have been working very closely with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to offer the unique opportunity to our workers to participate in this event,” says Michelle Zhao, Senior Manager of Phnom Penh SEZ Plc.
Chairwoman Madam Lim has personally offered breakfast, allowance and gifts to 2000 women. The company has organized the half day trip and provided the means of transportation. Currently 16,000 people are working at Phnom Penh SEZ of which 80% are female.
"This was a special occasion to contribute to Cambodian society’s development and especially to celebrate women’s rights,” says Michelle Zhao.“Our industrial estate is not just a major local draw for employment of people, it is also a large “physical place” which aspires to build a real community inside the zone. We are delighted to contribute to these kind of initiatives and have undertaken significant projects that help make this a better place to be.”
Phnom Penh SEZ is always proactively engaged in strengthening the bond between the company and the workers.Through its regular CSR projects and equally by committing to constantly improve the workers condition of life, the industrial estate has now become one of the most attractive and modern work destinations in Cambodia today.
“Our Chairwoman is trying to encourage our workers to participate more actively in social activities, “says Michelle Zhao.“She has survived a tragic history, she started from nothing and has struggled to get where she is now. She is a symbol of success for all women in the kingdom. Now, she tries to emphasis her spirit and experience to the surrounding people and first to all to the women at Phnom Penh SEZ.” Says Michelle Zhao.
