Phnom Penh SEZ Plc.’s participation in “Thai+1 Cambodia Investment Seminar” Co-organized by DITP Thailand and Cambodia SEZ Association

On Wednesday the 19th of July 2017, in Bangkok, Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. participated in the “Thai+1 Cambodia Investment Seminar” which was co-organized by Department of International Trade promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce Thailand, and Cambodia SEZ Association.

The seminar was initiated between both parties, aimed at providing valuable information about Cambodia investment environment and policies to Thai and international investors who are interested in Cambodia. Around 100 participants showed up in the seminar.

From Cambodia, Mr. Hean Sopauline, Chief Office of Cambodian Special Economic Zone Board, Council for the development of Cambodia provided a presentation about” Investment privilege & Concept of Special Economic Zone in Cambodia”, and Mr. Fukuzawa Daisuke, Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Cambodia Office delivered an introduction about Infrastructure Development In Cambodia. In addition to above, Kerry WorldBridge SEZ, Koh Kong SEZ, Phnom Penh SEZ and Sihanoukvill Port SEZ did zone introduction respectively.

From Thai side, we had the great honour to have Mr. Pornvit Sila-on, Director of New Economy did a welcome speech and Mr. Jirawuth Suwanna-Arjm Minister Counsellor (Commercial) Office of Commercial Affairs Royal Thai Embassy, Phnom Penh introduced about “Role of Thai Government to support Thai Investment in Cambodia”.

"Thailand is facing the cost increasing and industry upgrading, we have seen more and more Thai companies are looking for expanding in overseas. Cambodia with its very convenient location between Thailand, we strongly believe that it is one of the most important destination for Thai +1 companies," says Mr Ardisak, Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. investor relationship manager from Thailand.

We considered the seminar a great success, provided very important information to the participants and strongly believe that the seminar got more investors interested in investing in Cambodia.

GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY OF A NEW HOTEL AND SERVICE APARTMENT

July 18th, 2017 marked another special day for Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. as we witnessed the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the construction of a business hotel and serviced apartments in our zone.

This facility is built by KHMER INNOVATIVE SERVICE CO., LTD., the same company that runs Restaurant Tokyo, which is a very popular Japanese cuisine restaurant in our zone. When completed in the mid of next year, it will have 100 rooms available for short stay as well as long term stay. So services found at the serviced apartments around town can be received here as well.

We are very happy and look forward to the completion of this business hotel and serviced apartments. A lot of customers will be able to enjoy a nice stay in the calm and relaxing environment away from the busy city.

VISIT OF DELEGATIONS FROM ETHIOPIA

Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. had the great honor to host the visit of delegations from Ethiopia under a JICA project on July 13th and 14th, 2017.

The main purpose of the visit is to understand more about how Special Economic Zones in Cambodia are operated. Friendly discussion was made between three parties: Delegates from Ethiopia, PPSEZ, and Representatives from the One Stop Service Center. And the delegates were also introduced to some operating companies in the zone to grasp more information about their manufacturing operation as well as benefits and problems they are receiving.

Hopefully, they could receive valuable information for the development of similar zone in their country.

ENHANCING THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL IMPACT OF SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONES

Phnom Penh, 29 June, 2017 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Phnom Penh SEZ Plc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today.

The MOU between UNDP and Phnom Penh SEZ Plc serves as the very first agreement under the new United Nations Social Impact Fund (UNSIF) on the establishment of partnerships between UNDP and social impact investors in the country to ensure the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The United Nations Social Impact Fund (UNSIF) is a unique blended financing model where innovators, entrepreneurs, donors, philanthropists, public and private sector investors can identify and finance SDG-aligned investment projects that create both economic and social returns. 

The agreement was signed by Lok Chumteav Okhna Lim Chhiv Ho, Chairwoman of Phnom Penh SEZ Plc and Ms. Claire Van de Vaeren, UNDP Resident Representative.

The partnership between UNDP and Phnom Penh SEZ Plc aims at demonstrating how Special Economic Zones (SEZs) can contribute to the success of the SDG8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) in particular. The SEZs can potentially serve to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all, and to contribute to sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Through UNSIF’s financial support, UNDP will work with Phnom Penh SEZ Plc to enhance the social development impact of SEZs in various areas of activity ranging from promoting equality, affordable housing, safe and healthy work conditions, and protecting the environment.

UNSIF will also support Phnom Penh SEZ Plc to facilitate capital market and blended financing that focuses on ‘smart’ SEZ development that is sustainable and inclusive. 

2nd quarterly HR and Admin meeting with tenants in 2017

On June 28th, 2017, Phnom Penh SEZ PLC conducted the 2nd quarterly HR and Admin meeting with 53 participants from various tenants inside the zone. This meeting agenda included an update on previous meeting, environmental awareness, Infrastructure maintenance in the zone such as road work, community project and garbage disposal, and Sahas security service. The meeting was conducted effectively. All participants enjoyed asking questions and sharing their thoughts on the solutions.
